
The Centre for Religious and Spirituality Education of The Education University of Hong Kong was sponsored by the Chow Tai Fook Charity Foundation and the Lee Kum Kee Family Foundation to organize the “Appreciation in Generations and Community” from March 2024 to August 2025. This intergenerational community-connection initiative brought together elderly, primary school students, and student ambassadors from EdUHK. Through a series of community guided tours, intergenerational cultural interest groups, and guided-tour skills training activities, the programme aims to:
- To promote exchange between the elderly and youth, strengthen understanding and respect across generations mutually.
- To enhance interaction and communication between the two generations, thereby fostering intergenerational relationships built on mutual trust, care, and encouragement
- To co-create an “Elderly-friendly and Age-friendly” community
Programme Outcomes
Benefits for participants:
- To develop communication skills for intergenerational interaction
- To understand the other generation’s life experiences and gradually reshape preconceived impressions
- To build confidence and willingness to communicate with the other generation, and even form friendships that broaden social networks
- To enrich life experiences and share diverse topics, contributing to family harmony
- To enhance appreciation of history, culture, and nature
